the old cinema in lagartera is no longer derelict
the new owners have rescued the shell and have made it into a very posh shop
their business is said to be the largest stockist of flamenco shawls
... and the old projector is still in there somewhere
the cherubs were painted by a local art wizard, guillermo montenegro
i wondered if the ugly cherubs were a tribute to alvaro, who owned a local tile factory when he lived, and was one of the people who found a communal use for the cinema as an occasional theatre and concert hall
and here are some old tiles of alvaro's that someone has kept for "the future"
