Edna Clarke Hall

I've been assembling a scrapbook of art and film about Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights ... and stumbled across some enigmatic gouache sketches by Edna Clarke Hall  ...

... of course, I had never heard of her ... so i began rooting around on the internet and found some of her later "painted poems" ... derived from William Blake's well known format but clearly expressing deep personal emotion ... it took a while to get to the bottom of the story and i've found a thesis by  Kathryn Murray, University of Birmingham, 2012 ...

and an excellent "potted biography" on the upminster history page ...

and a brief outline of her encounter with the poet edward thomas

she was a friend of augustus john and his sister gwen
