"Marooned three years agone," he continued, "and lived on goats since then, and berries, and oysters. Wherever a man is, says I, a man can do for himself. But, mate, my heart is sore for Christian diet. You mightn't happen to have a piece of cheese about you, now? No? the dog is in a street called lower marsh, by waterloo station
the poster features a painting by mark gertler ... one of his best, i think .... an attendant once refused me permission to photograph it in leicester museum, alleging it was privately owned

tell me where is fancy bred ?
a feller that i deliver stuff to in crowborough has the most distressing black-eye
in reply to the inevitable enquiry, he says he was sweeping at a ball that lifted and came up from the edge of the bat
i then wondered what the scorer entered on the sheet
"retired, hurt", of course ... but there was some consolation ... a "sixty, not out" score does wonders for his batting average at this stage of the season
so hubris and nemesis are still the inseparable twins

someone with a paintbrush has done their best ...
