some can't play catch up ... men go off to war thinking they'll come back enriched and ennobled ... i suspect those sentiments motivated the lovely artist rex whistler ... he wanted to fight ... was trained as a tank commander ... and when he reached normandy, was killed on the first day in action ... whilst he was taking notes during training, he couldn't help but doodle ...

... as with all great artists, his spirit endures ...
